Brian Cherry

December 3, 1968 — December 2, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Keith Cherry, affectionately known to many as Wubby or T-Rex, who departed on December 2, 2023, just one day shy of his 55th birthday. Born on December 3, 1968 in Lincolnton, North Carolina, Brian was a man of many virtues, known for his compassionate heart, his clever mind, his lighthearted humor, and his genuine love for those close to him. Brian lived a life that was deeply rooted in the values of family, community, and the simple pleasures of life. He was a devoted stepfather to Cody, and his dogs, who were more than pets to him, but family. His love and respect for nature were evident in his passion for hunting and fishing. His smart and strategic mind was always at play during his poker games. A quote that sums up Brian's life beautifully is, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." - Ralph Waldo Emerson. This was Brian's philosophy, and he lived it every day. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Cherry I; his mother, Janette Cherry; his brother, Billy Cherry II; and his nephew, Gabriel Teems. Brian was a cherished family man, survived by his loving sister, Sheila "Lynn" Bentley (Billy) He was a beloved uncle to his nieces, Melissa Pastula and Connie Prestwood (Audie) of Huntersville and Lincolnton NC respectively, Kendall Cherry and Abby Cherry both of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Billy Lamar Cherry III, of Greenville, Michigan. He was also a doting great-uncle to Rhilynn Faith, T.J., Connor, Wyatt, D.J., Bentley and Waylon, and a caring great-great-uncle to Aaralyn, Autumn, and Connor. As we remember Brian, we invite all who knew him to share their memories and photos on the memorial page. His story is not just in the facts and dates of his life, but in the lives he touched, the smiles he brought, and the love he shared. Today, we celebrate the life of a compassionate, funny, loving, and smart man, and his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
