Brenda Young

October 19, 1957 — May 19, 2025

In Loving Memory of Brenda Joyce Young October 19, 1957 – May 19, 2025 A Life Remembered Born Brenda Joyce Marion on October 19, 1957, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to John (Sr.) and Karen Marion at Butterworth Hospital. Brenda spent her childhood and teen years swimming, playing baseball, volunteering at the local recreation center, performing in talent shows, and enjoying one of her favorite pastimes—roller skating. She matriculated through the Grand Rapids Public Schools system, graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in 1975. After high school, Brenda married her high school sweetheart, Tyrone. Together, they had two children: daughter Karyn and son Tyrone II. Though the couple later divorced, Brenda remained in Grand Rapids with her children, raising them with unwavering love and resilience. In 1983, Brenda earned her certification in accounts receivable and worked in the field for several years before relocating to the Detroit metropolitan area. After nearly a decade in Detroit, she returned to Grand Rapids and fulfilled her dream of purchasing her own home. Brenda later earned her associate’s degree in medical billing and coding from Davenport College. Although she continued working in accounts receivable, Brenda felt a calling to care for others, particularly the elderly. She began working in adult and senior care, first joining Holland Home in 2013. She returned full-time in 2016 and served faithfully for the next five years. Brenda left Holland Home due to a physical disability in March 2021 and officially retired in 2022. Brenda was deeply loved and respected by many. Children and adults alike often sought her out for advice, comfort, and wisdom. She was affectionately regarded as a “favorite aunt” by many. Brenda worked tirelessly, often holding down multiple jobs, and always managed to make ends meet for her family. Holidays and birthdays were always filled with joy and celebration in her home. She Leaves to Cherish Her Memory Her loving mother, Karen Marion Her siblings: Geneva Mouzon, Kathy Dandridge, and Charles Marion Bonus sister: Rena Marion Her children: Karyn Young and Tyrone Young II Grandchildren: Mar’Quan Young, Tyaira Young, Ty’Ajiah Robertson, Tia Young, Aaliyah Young, Zonique Howard, Honor Walton, and Harmony Walton A host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends She was preceded in death by her father, John Marion Sr., siblings Sharral Joseph and John Marion Jr., brother-in-love John Dandridge, and bonus sister Letitia Rogers Marion. Her Faith Brenda confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. We rest in the assurance that her spirit is now in the loving hands of her Heavenly Father—free from pain and embraced in His perfect peace. Favorite Scripture John 10:27–30 (NKJV) “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”
