Brad Knight, 61, of Battle Creek died peacefully at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence on Monday, March 27, 2023 with his family by his side. Brad was born March 13, 1962 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Robert and Tanya (Adams) Knight.
He was a 1980 graduate of Lakeview High School. Brad studied landscape design at Western Michigan University and Lansing Community College and started his own landscape company, Sitescapes Landscape, in 1993. He loved to work outdoors and turn his landscape designs into reality. He did many designs for private and commercial properties around Battle Creek. He felt pride in each of his job sites and strived to make it a more beautiful space upon completion. Brad received the title of Michigan Certified Nurseryman in 1992. Brad also received a service award for outstanding service and dedication to the Fort Custer Rotary Club in 1996-1997. Brad was previously married to Betsy Wigner. He was united in marriage to Sandy Frame on March 3, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Sandy; a son, Joel (Amanda) Knight of Battle Creek; daughter, Dana (Nate) Horian of Shelby Township; grandsons, Camden and Mason Horian; a sister, Shane (Ron) Stiemsma of Temperance; step son, Joe Grzegorzewski (Alicia Merril), of Battle Creek; step daughter, Ally Grzegorzewski (Justin Dibble), of Erie, Pennsylvania; and five step grandchildren, Emma, Blake, Carter, Julianna, and Jenna. The family would be remiss if they did not mention Dan Muenzer, Brad's best friend through decades of friendship.
Brad was a true athlete in his younger years, playing high school football and baseball. For years he followed the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. He was a lifelong Spartan fan as well. He loved the outdoors and was often seen traipsing around in his cowboy hat and boots. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and geocaching. Being trapped in an office was not for him!
Brad will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and a loyal friend. He had a laugh that will never be forgotten. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and he never judged a soul because he always saw the best in people. He asked for so little, but gave so very much.
The family would like to thank Centrica Care Navigators for their caring and compassion. Memorial contributions may be made to them at 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Brad would have loved if you would reach out to an old friend that you have not talked to in a while, or perhaps spend some time outdoors as well. At Brad's request, there will be a small service for immediate family members only.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
