Bonnie Ida Ruth Orr, a spirited and empathetic soul, left the world a little less bright on September 19, 2024. Born in Lexington, VA, on June 20, 1948, to Garland and Mary Daniel, Bonnie's life was a testament to the courage, creativity, and boundless love she had for those around her. Her vibrant spirit and the nickname given to her by her grandfather, his "Bonnie Lass," held true throughout her life, illuminating the lives of everyone she met.
From her early days as an elementary education teacher to her later years as a child developmental specialist, Bonnie's passion lay in nurturing and empowering the vulnerable. Her work with the Charleston County Webb Center and as an Early Interventionist was marked by ceaseless dedication, selflessness, and a profound ability to inspire success amidst challenges. She was a beacon of hope and resilience for many families in Charleston, leaving an indelible impact on the special needs community.
Bonnie's zest for life extended beyond her professional pursuits. She was an accomplished seamstress, designing and creating beautiful outfits for her daughters' recitals and Halloween costumes. She found joy in the arts, whether it was appreciating a live performance or expressing her creativity through baking. Her Peninsula Grille Coconut Cake and blueberry bread pudding were legendary, and her love for music was infectious. Bonnie's beautiful voice could often be heard in the choir, performing the entire Messiah with pride, and her daughters fondly remember her as a master of lullabies.
A dedicated and loving wife to Billy Orr since November 23, 1974, and the most nurturing mother to her daughters, Mary Orr and Ann Orr, Bonnie's greatest joy was her family. Her strength and courage were formidable, and she was steadfast in her devotion to those she loved. She cared deeply for her family, animals, and children, often giving more than she had to offer when she saw a need. Her love extended to her grandchildren Victoria, Joey, and Kallum Krick, and her son-in-law Kerry Krick.
Bonnie's life was guided by her faith. As a graduate of the Baptist College, now known as Charleston Southern University, she instilled her strong values in her family. As stated in Proverbs 31:25, "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come," Bonnie embodied these words, living a life filled with compassion, resilience, and an unwavering spirit.
We invite you to celebrate the life of Bonnie Orr, a courageous, empathetic, creative, and spirited woman who touched the hearts of many. She is survived by her daughters Mary (Kerry) Orr and Ann Orr, her beloved husband Billy Orr, her grandchildren Victoria, Joey (Jordan) Krick, and Kallum Krick, and her siblings Gary Daniel and Jo Lee McClain.
