Mr. William Howard Bill Bromley, Jr., age 86, of Greenville, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2006 from Metron of Greenville. The son of William H. & Dolly (Clayton) Bromley, Sr. he was born on June 7, 1920 in Jennings. On March 6, 1940, in Belding, he married the former Alma Minzey, and together they raised five children. Due to his flat feet and vision, Bill was unable to enlist in the Armed Forces during World War II, however, he helped the war effort by working as a welder in bomb manufacturing at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company.
He then began a 41 year career as an automobile dealer, owning Bromleys Auto Sales in Belding and Greenville. He enjoyed stock car racing (having owned and raced two cars over the years), flying airplanes, yard sales, and racing motorcycles, but most of all spending time with his children and grandkids. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Bromley on July 11, 1987. He later married the former Mary Ellen (Root) Gottesleben, who preceded him in death on April 19, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are five children, Robert L. & Betsy Bromley, Sr. of Greenville, Myla Towne of Kentwood, Albert & Kathy Bromley of Stanton, Doug & Ann Bromley of Belding, and Diane & Karl Haney, Sr. of Sheridan; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
