Betty Madsen

January 6, 1914 — December 2, 2007

Mrs. Betty Mae Madsen, age 93, of Trufant, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2007 at Spectrum Health United Memorial-Kelsey Hospital, Lakeview. The daughter of N.P. & Sadie Nielsen, she was born on Jan. 6, 1914 and was a 1935 graduate of Trufant High School. On Jan. 16, 1937, she married Elwood E. Madsen, and together they farmed and raised one son. A life-long member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School at the church and had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 383, the Rebeccas, and the Red Hat Society, as well as the Trufant Secret Pals. Betty enjoyed playing the organ, feeding and watching birds, playing bingo, and embroidery and handicrafts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elwood Madsen, on Sept. 16, 1989; and a son, Kay E. Madsen on July 6, 1994. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Jean Madsen of Trufant; two grandsons, Roger E. Madsen of Trufant, and David & Marta Madsen; two great granddaughters, Teresa and Rosa Madsen, all of Bradenton, Florida; a sister-in-law, Audree Madsen of Greenville; two nieces and a nephew, Ardella Hansen, Jeanne Madsen, and Bruce Nielsen; her second family, Finetta Musser, Janette & Joe Funk, and David Musser, all of Trufant, and June & Randy Carey of Stanwood. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 from St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Trufant, with the Rev. Aaron I. Sorrels III officiating. Burial will follow in Trufant Cemetery.
