Mrs. Elizabeth Betty Copeland, age 86, of Greenville, passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 8, 2006 at Metron of Greenville. The daughter of John & Marjorie (Huff) Bower, she was born Feb. 21, 1920 at the family farm in Eureka Township. Following her graduation from high school, she married John A. Copeland on Sept. 4, 1937 at her parents home. Together, they raised two children, in addition to farming. Betty was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church, had been active in 4-H, the Eureka Township Ladies Aide, and enjoyed crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jack Bower. Surviving are her husband of 69 years, John Copeland; their children, Roger & Jackie Copeland, and Lynda Lake, all of Greenville; a brother, Jerry Bower of Greenville; four grandchildren, Rick Copeland, Ken & Judy Copeland, John & KD Lake, Leslee & Chad Emmons; nine great grandchildren, Christopher, Mykalia, and Kendra Copeland, Taylor John, Olivia, Peyton, and Cooper Lake, and Kennedy Elizabeth and Keegan Emmons; a brother-in-law, Gordon & Marion Copeland of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, corner of W. Washington and S. Franklin, Greenville, with the Rev. Paul E. Dickson officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Instead of flowers, Betty would have appreciated contributions to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
