Mrs. Bertha A. McKenzie, age 85, of Gowen, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, 2006 at her home. The daughter of Cecil & Bessie (Kecker) Clark, she was born on Feb. 6, 1920 in Elmira. On July 13, 1939 she married Donald J. McKenzie. A devoted wife and mother, Bertha lived in the Lansing area until she and Don retired to their home at Half Mile Lake. Bertha was a member of the Spencer Mills Orthodox Presbyterian Church and looked forward to celebrating her 86th birthday this coming Monday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McKenzie on July 4, 1988; her parents; and eight brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Richard Lortie of Eagle; three grandchildren, Jeff & Karen Lortie of Connecticut; Sue Bernier of California, and Greg & Bonnie Lortie of Ohio; six great grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, David, John, Calvin, and Brook; a sister, Maurine Carlson of Gowen; several nieces and nephews; and her church family at Specner Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Spencer Mills Church, 12710 17 Mile Road off of Lincoln Lake Avenue, Gowen, with the Rev. Frank Marsh, pastor of Spencer Mills Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Mills Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Envelopes for memorial contributions to the Youth Mission Fund at Spencer Mills Church will be available at the funeral home.
