Bernard Darnell

August 24, 1949 — January 29, 2025

It is with profound sorrow and deep affection that we remember the life of Bernard "Bud" Darnell, who was born on August 24, 1949, in Lansing, MI, and passed away on January 29, 2025. Bud, as he was fondly known by all, was a beacon of light and the embodiment of love, empathy, and generosity. He was renowned for his quick wit, his unwavering commitment to family, and his distinct talent for creating something out of nothing as the best fabricator in Michigan. Bud's passion for life was contagious. He was a loving husband, an empathetic father, and a smart and generous friend. His love for welding was only surpassed by his love for his family, his dogs Olive and Ruby, and his joy of watching sports, riding motorcycles, fishing, and teaching. Just as Bud would skillfully weld two separate pieces into one strong structure, he equally had a knack for uniting his loved ones, creating an unbreakable family bond. Bud is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patty”Hyde, his daughters Zoey (Scott) Darnell and Jennifer Darnell, his sons Bernard “Buddy”(Erin) and Cecil (Nicole) Darnell, his ex-wife Sharon Darnell, his sister-in-laws Rebecca (Roger) Davenport and Shelia Darnell, his brother-in-law Darrel (Karen) Hyde, his mother-in-law Margie Hyde, his grandchildren Haleigh, Zachary, Evan, Madelyn, Charlie, Allinay, and Abbigail, his great-granddaughter Askyah, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Ronaldean Darnell, his brother Tim Darnell, and his nephew Timothy JR. Bud will be remembered not just for his strength of character and kindness, but also for the joy and laughter he brought into every room. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him. We encourage everyone to share their memories, stories, and photos on Bud's memorial page, so we can all remember and celebrate this extraordinary man who brought so much joy, laughter, and love to our lives.
