Barbara L. Jorgensen, age 87, of Trufant, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing Center- United Hospital in Greenville. The daughter of Leon & Thelma (Geer) Fox, she was born on March 5, 1926 in Grand Rapids and on June 22, 1946, in Sparta, she married Myron C. Jorgensen.
Barb had worked at Wolverine World Wide and later as an inspector at Ore-Ida Foods in Greenville, but primarily spent most of her time as a devoted wife and mother. She was a long-time member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant where she helped in a number of roles, including the group that made blankets for the residents of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. In addition, she volunteered as a Grey Lady at the former United Memorial Hospital, was a charter and life member of the Hough-Pontius V.F.W. Post 3701 Ladies Auxiliary in Lakeview, and enjoyed attending dances and music jamborees in Sand Lake and Trufant. She also enjoyed golfing, fishing, sewing and crocheting, and spending the winters in Florence, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Myron C. Mike Jorgensen on February 7, 1999; a son, Carmen Jorgensen, in 2004; a brother, Norris Fox; and a sister, Beverly Lancour.
Surviving are her two sons, J. Duane & Maryanne Jorgensen of Elk Rapids, and Randy & Lois Jorgensen of Willamsburg; a brother, Erwin & Marge Fox of Cedar Springs; a sister, Yvonne Henrickson of Howard City; her grandchildren, Danny, Jimmy, Kenda, Jordan, Dana, Adam, Kirsten, and Kristopher; eleven great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren with the seventh on the way ; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 408 W. 2nd Street, Trufant, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The Rev. Dan Edwards, pastor of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Aaron I. Sorrels III, former pastor, will officiate and burial will take place at Trufant Cemetery in the spring. Envelopes for memorial contributions to St. Thomas Lutheran Church will be available at the church.
