Barbara Appel

April 30, 1926 — November 6, 2006

Mrs. S. Barbara (Boulard) Appel, age 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 6, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Boulard, Frances (Elmer) Sislock; brothers, Clarke (Marge) Boulard, and Ward Jr. Boulard; and brother-in-law, Ken Woods. Surviving are her children, Terry (Katie) of IN, Cindie (Jim) Thompson, Kim (Linda) of MO; her sister, Isabelle Woods; several grandchildren, great grand-children, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Having been such a true and caring friend she will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind. She lived her last months at Luther Village where she received wonderful loving care from the staff. She was born in Alto on April 30, 1926 to Ward and Mary Boulard, graduated from Caledonia High School and was a cashier for many years. She enjoyed sewing and worked many years and retired from Baby Bliss in Middleville. She was active in her church teaching Sunday School in the early years and worked on different committees throughout her adult life. She began her volunteer work more than 22 years ago at Luther Home in addition to serving as Treasurer and President of the Luther Home Service Guild. She also volunteered at the Discovery Shop to benefit the American Cancer Society. She was a Christian and member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Middleville. The family wishes to thank special "volunteer" Hanne Mussehl, all those at Luther Village and Hospice of Michigan for their love and care. Memorial Services were held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2900 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2006 with Pastor Sikora officiating. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that remembrances be made to Luther Village or Hospice of Michigan. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville.
