Arvin King

June 9, 1923 — February 18, 2011

Arvin Wyman King, age 87, of Greenville, passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2011 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Albert & Eunice (Lockwood) King, he was born on June 9, 1923 in Greenville. On Dec. 24, 1942 he married Audrey Colleen McQuay. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific theater and helped in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. After returning home he worked for the former Gibson Refrigerator Company for nearly 40 years and was a member of UAW Local 137. Arvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping especially sitting around the campfire with family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey on September 24, 2009; his parents; two sons, Randy King and Gary King; a great grandson, Corey Anthony Lynch; a brother, Harold King; and three sisters, Frances King, Helen Weeks, and Marilyn Kimmel. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Lynn Collins; a son and two daughters-in-law, Jerry & Marcia King, and Joanne King, all of Greenville; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Sr. & Mickie King; a half-brother, Ozzie Snyder of Edmore; a sister-in-law, Rose McQuay; a brother-in-law, Maurice Kimmel; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rev. Joel Heron, pastor of Greenville Community Church, will officiate and burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Envelopes for memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Hospice will be available at the funeral home.
