Arthur Brems

October 14, 1925 — March 22, 2016

Arthur R. Brems, age 90, passed away quietly at home in the presence of his family, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 after a brief illness. Arthur was born and raised in Grand Haven. He graduated from Grand Haven High School and served in the Army during the Pacific campaign of World War II. When he returned he married Margaret Williams and they started a family together. Art's career included being a bartender at Win Schuler's in Grand Haven, and the manager of Spring Lake Country Club in Spring Lake and Sunnybrook Country Club in Grandville. He enjoyed playing table tennis and loved playing golf with his wife. They were the biggest fans at the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Arthur was a devout Christian and made a lasting impression on his children that they carried on into their adult life. He was a wonderful father, a friend to many and adored his loving wife Margaret. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents, William & Matilda (Erhorn) Brems; siblings, Donald Brems and William Brems; brothers-in-laws, Ronnie Williams and Merton Walters; sisters-in-laws, Mary Jane Williams and Loretta (Walter) Tiles. Surviving are his children, Steven (Kim) Brems, Gary Brems and Barbara (Ron) White; sisters-in-laws, Kay Brems, Helen Brems, Doddie (Jack) Hudson and Marilyn Walters; brother-in-law, Earl (MaryAnn) Williams; grandchildren, Adam (Jenny) White, Abbie (Grant) Koster, Alex (Amanda) White, Mallory Brems, Matt (Karen) Brems, Jeff (Kara) Brems Katie Brems, Paige Timmer, and Abby Timmer; and his precious six great-grandchildren, Kendall and Camryn White, Ashton and Brode Koster, Brooke White and Leona Brems. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1481 Baldwin Street in Jenison, with a celebration of Arthur's life to follow at 11:00 a.m. We would like to thank Spectrum Health Hospice for the care and support you provided. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be given to Spectrum Health Hospice at www.spectrumhealth.org.
