Arlene Shinabarger, age 93, of Greenville, passed away Sunday evening, October 21, 2012 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Greenville. One of eight children born to Wilbur & Emma (Vroman) Wineland, she was born on April 28, 1919 in Middleton, where she grew up on the family farm and earned her high school diploma . On August 5, 1936, in LaGrange, Indiana, she married DeGoldie E. Shinabarger and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage and raised two children, in addition to working as her husbands business partner in several ventures including the Turk Lake Bar, Shinabarger Dodge Sales & Service, and the Reno Bar. She enjoyed fishing (always putting on her red lipstick for good luck when ice fishing), gardening, sewing, and cooking. Arlene was a volunteer Gray Lady at the former United Memorial Hospital as well as a cub scout leader with Pack 3130. She was preceded in death by her husband, DeGoldie Shinabarger on January 6, 1996; their son, Robert Edward Shinabarger on July 17, 2010; a daughter-in-law, Deb Dedo-Shinbarger on Jan. 2, 2009; four sisters, Thelma Wineland, Neva Wineland, Velma Coryell, and Margaret Marcey; and a brother, Lyle Ray Wineland. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Shinny Shinabarger of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Jean Shinabarger of Paw Paw; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Edward & Stacey Shinabarger of Portage, and Joy Ellen Shinabarger of San Antonio, Texas; a great granddaughter, Adele Charlotte Shinabarger of Portage; two sisters, Doris Helfer of Sandy, Utah, and Dorothy Giles-Hromadka of Naples, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Kenneth Harger, retired pastor of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate and burial will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
