Arden Rentsman

Visitation: 2-4 & 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Mr. Arden O. Rentsman, age 89, of Nelson Township, rural Cedar Springs, passed away early Saturday evening, Sept. 1, 2007 at Metron of Cedar Springs. The son of Ottis & Grace (Faulver) Rentsman, he was born on July 11, 1918 in Harvard. On Nov. 30, 1940, in Greenville, he married Frances Aleene Budd and then worked at Federal Mogul until being inducted into the U.S. Navy. A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and was a long time member of the Cedar Springs American Legion post. Arden retired from the former Ranney Refrigerator Company (Northland Corp.) in Greenville, and for 36 years was a volunteer firefighter on the Harvard Fire Department, which served the townships of northeast Kent county. An avid outdoorsman, Arden enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Chester Rentsman and Scott Rentsman; and two sisters, Tine Reed and Lela Clayton. Surviving are his wife of almost 67 years, Frances A. Rentsman; their children, Donna & Patrick Mullin of Howard City, Ardeene & Charles Latham of Cedar Springs, and Frederick & Suzann Rentsman of Rockford; two sisters, Emma Reed of Greenville, and Grace Kellogg of Florida; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and many, many great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Burial, with full military honors rendered by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow at Spencer Mills Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, where envelopes for memorial contributions to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (www.pva.org) will be available.
