Nació el 8 de Junio de 1939 en San Pedro de Macoris, República Dominicana. Falleció el 4 de Febrero de 2024 en la ciudad de Wyoming, Michigan. Le sobreviven: Lucy María Davis, su esposa de 57 años y sus hijos: Carmen Post, Jose Davis-Ledesma,y Juan que falleció en el 2019. Son sus nietos: Gregory Post Davis y Colinda Post Davis. Hermanos: Ruth Davis, Noemi Davis de Lipowski, Esther Davis de Medhkour, Palmira Davis de Linares, Elizabeth Diaz, José Davis, Ana Maria Davis de Peralta y Juan Miguel Davis. También le sobreviven numerosos sobrinos. Antonio es el segundo de nueve hijos de Antonio Davis Lorenzo y Maria del Carmen Marte de Davis. Fue miembro de la Iglesia Adventista del Septimo Dia en su ciudad natal. Se destacó como miembro de los Boy Scouts. Desde muy joven comenzó su carrera como maestro, la que ejerció en el Colegio Episcopal San Esteban y en el Liceo Secundario Puerto Rico en San Pedro de Macorís. Además, trabajó como instructor de Español para el Cuerpo de Paz (Peace Corps, Santo Domingo, República Dominicana). Ocupó los importantes cargos de Ayudante Civil de la Presidencia y de Inspector de Educación y Superintendente de Escuelas para la Secretaría de Educación en República Dominicana. También tuvo el honor de ser Teniente Coronel del Cuerpo de Bomberos Civiles de su ciudad natal. Después de vivir largos años en República Dominicana, su país natal, se trasladó a Puerto Rico, donde continuó su vocación magisterial desempeñando la labor de maestro en el Calvin School de Puerto Rico. En 1983 vino a vivir a Grand Rapids, Michigan, donde después de cursar estudios de Inglés intensivo en la universidad de Ferris State University, pasó a trabajar en Amway Corporation. En el año 1989 fue empleado como consejero en el programa “Project Rehab” en Grand Rapids donde logró trabajar hasta su retiro. En 1999 recibió el título de Doctor of Science in Counseling Psychology. Entre otras funciones trabajó en el proyecto CARES con los inmigrantes en el Oeste de Michigan. Fue miembro activo de la Asociación de Dominicanos del Oeste de Michigan. Durante sus años viviendo en Grand Rapids, se mantuvo activo en la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día Bethel II. He was born June 8, 1939, to the late Antonio Davis Lorenzo and Maria del Carmen Marte de Davis in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He was the second of nine children born to Antonio Davis Lorenzo and Maria del Carmen Marte de Davis. Antonio grew up active in the Seventh-Day Adventist church. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts in his town. In 1957, at 18 years old, he started working as a teacher at Colegio Episcopal San Estéban en San Pedro de Macoris. In 1966, Antonio married Lucy Maria Ledesma Baez. They had three children together, Carmen, José, and Juan. Unfortunately, Juan passed away in 2019. In the 70’s Antonio held a position as Civil Assistant to President Joaquín Balaguer. Later he held a position as Inspector of Education and Superintendent of Schools and also worked as a Spanish Instructor for the Peace Corps in Santo Domingo. During his professional career, he was a professor at Liceo Secundario Puerto Rico en San Pedro de Macoris; Professor of Mathematics and Spanish at Calvin School en Puerto Rico. He moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1983, and in 1984, he participated in the inaugural program, Intensive English Program at Ferris State University, in Big Rapids, Michigan. Antonio worked for Amway Corporation in 1988. Then in 1989, he started his trajectory as substance abuse Counselor at Project Rehab in Grand Rapids. In 1999 he received his Doctorate of Science in Counseling Psychology. He worked as a counselor until his retirement in 2007. Additionally he worked with Project CARES with immigrants in West Michigan. He was a member of the Southwest Michigan Dominican Association. He also was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Fire Department in San Pedro de Macoris. Until his last days Antonio was active in his church, Seventh-Day Adventist Bethel II in the Grand Rapids area. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Maria Davis; daughter, Carmen Post; son, Jose Davis-Ledesma; grandson, Gregory Post; granddaughter, Colinda Post Davis; and many siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Juan Antonio Davis-Ledesma; and nephew, Irving Velez. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, at Iglesia Adventista Del Septimo Dia Monte de Sion, 235 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, from 5:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The funeral service will be celebrated at the church on Friday at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Ruddy Caldera officiating.
