Althea Joyce Hendsbee Carter, age 86, of Jenison, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021. Althea is now safely tucked in the arms of Jesus. She was born on April 15, 1935, and grew up in Albion, Maine. Althea graduated from Besse High School. She attended New Brunswick Bible Institute in Hartland, New Brunswick, Canada. Upon graduation, she traveled around New England teaching Daily Vacation Bible Schools. While in Bucksport, ME, she met Wendell "Warren" Carter, they were then married and had five children. Althea was a substitute and reading aid teacher for the Bucksport, Orland and Searsport Schools. In 1990 after retiring, she and Warren moved to Michigan. She worked for Waldon Woods Retirement Village in Wyoming for many years.
Survivors include her five children, Sharon (the late Daryl) Pedde, Miriam Carter, Janice (Daniel) Moxley, Daniel (Ruth) Carter, and Mary Esther (Nick) Oldenkamp; grandchildren, Erin (John) Steube, Meredith (Timothy) White, and Andrew (Ashley) Pedde; Hannah, Daniel, Caleb, Sara, Joshua, Abigail and Jerusha Moxley; Jacob Carter and Alexandra Carter; Emily (Ryan) Brophy and Kyle (fiance, Brianna) Oldenkamp; sisters, Faith Rankins and Adena Hubley; brother, James Hendsbee; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Lounder.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Warren Carter; parents, Edna & Arthur Hendsbee, Sr.; and brothers, Edward Hendsbee, George Hendsbee, John Hendsbee, and Arthur Hendsbee Jr.
To honor Althea's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services.
