Allen “Al” James Schalk was born on June 24, 1958, to Janet (Poelman) and Norman R. Schalk. Allen passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Al was a hardworking man his entire life. A master electrician, a carpenter, and all-around handyman who always had the right tool for the job. Al was a proud veteran of the United States Navy as well as a member of the Wyoming and Grandville Michigan VFW Post 702. He Worked for Keeler Brass, Consumers, Woodline Furniture, and retired from Grand Haven Board of Light and Power.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Norman R Schalk; sister-in law, Judy Schalk; and brother-in-law, Robert Russell.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Nancy Schalk; his mother, Janet Deweese; two sons, AJ and Nick; step-children, Tarrah (Ben) Meyering, Kyle (Amy) Smith, and Erin Smith (Jonah Aungst); and 10 step-grandchildren; brother, Norman (Gina) Schalk; sister, Luann Russell; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service & Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, with light refreshments and food to follow. Livestream will be available for the service.
