Alice Ruth Wood, age 82, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The daughter of Clair O. & Ruth Alta (Reed) Williams, she was born on March 15, 1931 in Greenville.
On November 20, 1948, in Greenville, she married Frank W. Wood and together they raised four children and enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Frank passed away on June 27, 2000.
A devoted wife and mother, Alice also worked outside the home at the old Wolverine World Wide plant in Greenville, as a waitress at the Dutch Oven restaurant, and at the former Ore-Ida Foods plant... but was proudest to have been a school crossing guard for the City of Greenville for many years.
While she was an avid reader and enjoyed handycrafts, especially knitting, sewing, and painting, her greatest joy was found in time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank W. Wood, Sr.; a sister, Bessie Schreiner; a son-in-law, Thomas Pettengill; and a grandson, Timothy T. Brodene.
Surviving are her children, Carol Pettengill of Belding, Deborah Reynolds & Jerry Porter, Diana Brodene, all of Greenville, and Frank W. & Brenda Wood, Jr. of Stanton; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Iris & Craig Rusnell, Louie Williams & Marilyn Rhodes, all of Greenville, Lorna Vant'hof & Michael Earl of Grand Rapids, Ronald & Loretta Williams of Oregon, and Doris & Robert Zigenfoose of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville.
