Alice Wieringa

November 2, 1927 — June 8, 2021

Alice Joan Wieringa, age 93, passed into the care of the Great Physician on June 8, 2021. Alice, the youngest of four children was born on November 2, 1927, to Clare and Elsie Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bernard, in 2015. Also preceding her were brother, Harry; sister, Mary; sisters-in-law, Bernadine Reaser and Margery Williams; and brothers-in-law, Robert Tolan, Richard Wilcox, Harry Reaser, and Charles Williams. Alice is survived by her four children, Mark Wieringa, Jill (Bruce) Johnson, Matt Wieringa (Janice Stauffer), and Claire (Gary) Toon. Grandchildren, Juliana, Lei'ani, Brody, Skylar, Zachery, Marissa (Travis) Hake, Megan, Lauren, and Nathan remember spending their summers on the farm, playing in the pool, enjoying grandma's great cooking, and each receiving a specially-made quilt. Great-grandchildren also survive, as do sister, Arlene Wilcox; sister-in-law, Betty Williams; Kim Wieringa (mother of Zach and Marissa), and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack and Chris Campbell, Lynn Otto, and Deb Price fondly considered Alice a "second mother". Growing up, Alice enjoyed "Queenie", her horse, participated in 4-H, where she later became a leader, and held class and student-government offices at Thornapple-Kellogg High School, where she graduated in 1945. Alice enjoyed her chosen career as a home maker on the Wieringa Centennial Farm. Her pies, cookies, and canned fruits earned numerous ribbons at the Barry County Fair. Bowling leagues, quilt and extension clubs, and avid reading were favorite activities. Traveling extensively throughout the world, Bernard and Alice created long-lasting memories. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Peace Church 6950 Cherry Valley (M-37) in Middleville. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. Donations in Alice's name can be made to Peace Church or Alzheimer's Association. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
