Alice Powers

Alice M. Powers, age 70, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, April 20, 2013 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Angus & Donna (Alick) Huey, she was born on May 27, 1942 in Hastings. On June 13, 1961, in Greenville, she married Marvin S. Powers and together they raised three sons and enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage. Alice retired from the former Electrolux Home Products were she worked as a hi-lo driver. While she enjoyed glasswork, gardening, nature, and crocheting, she looked forward to her morning ritual of coffee and cigarettes and the time she spent with family, friends, and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin S. Powers on June 4, 2001; a granddaughter, Tasha Powers; a sister, Marlene Huey; two brothers, Deber Huey and Paul Huey. Surviving are her sons, Marvin E. & Julie Powers of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Terry L. & Elizabeth Powers of Greenville, and Destry J. & Jamie Powers of Crystal; grandchildren, Heather & Donald Russell, Nicole & Shayne McDonough, Paige Armstrong, Austin Ellsworth, D.J. Powers II, Chelsea Powers, Alexis Powers, Shaunda VanAlstine, and Candice VanAlstine; her great grandchildren, Danna Russell, Tyler Russell, Caitlyn McDonough, Logan Russell, Dillon McDonough, Chloe Powers, Peyton Wilkerson, and Riley Wilkerson; a brother, Robert & Jolene Huey of Belding; siblings-in-law, Gerri Bissell of Greenville, Vance Powers of Gowen, Emerald & Maude Powers of Greenville, and Theresa Huey of Lake City; and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation is Thursday from 12-1 p.m. at Greenville Community Church, 6596 Vining Road, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pastor Joel Heron will officiate and a luncheon will follow the service. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will take place privately at Tuttle Cemetery, Ionia.
