Alice May McMeeken, age 93, of Greenville, Michigan, passed away Friday, August 31, 2026 at her daughter’s home surrounded by the love of her family and under the care of Corewell Health Hospice.

The daughter of Edward & Hazel (Clifford) Soss, she was born on August 18, 1932 in Greenville, and was graduate of Greenville Senior High School.

Alice retired from The Daily News, where she worked as a layout technician when the newspaper was prepared for printing by hand. A life-long avid reader, Alice also enjoyed gardening, and cooking and baking for her family and friends, but time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy. She had been a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post No. 101 Ladies Auxiliary and delighted in trips to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers and sisters; two husbands, Gayle Petersen in 1981 and Ernest E. “Ernie” McMeeken in 2008; a daughter, Kelly (Petersen) Rasmussen in 2023; and a great-granddaughter, Sage Gilbert in 2009.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy & Bob Gilbert of Greenville; her grandchildren, Chris & Angie Gilbert of Grand Rapids, and Jama & Josh Ingersoll of Trufant; three great-grandchildren, Gwen Gilbert, Sullivan Gilbert, and Jameson Ingersoll; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Honoring her wishes, no services will be held and burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens in Belding.
