Alfonso “Al” Johnson
February 21, 1941 - October 21, 2026

Alfonso “Al” Johnson, age 85, of Baldwin, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at his home. The son of John & Elizabeth (Teague) Johnson, he was born in Cecil, Alabama -- the tenth of thirteen children -- on February 21, 1941.

An avid sports fan, he played both baseball and basketball in high school.

As a young man, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he made his home for many years and met and married Sandra “Sandi” Griffin on October 12, 1985.

Al retired from the United States Postal Service. Later in life, they settled in Baldwin, Michigan, where they lived for the past two decades and built a wide circle of friends who became like family.

Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1982, Al served joyfully and faithfully for the rest of his life and enjoyed the privilege of serving as a congregation elder. A patient man with a big heart, he loved his family, ice cream, the blues, barbecuing, and a good laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi Johnson; his brother, Calvin (Peggy) Johnson; his daughters, Cheryl Johnson-Williams (Dettrick), Linda Johnson, and Keturah Johnson; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. He was well loved and will be dearly missed.
