Alan Barton "Bart" Knapp, age 85, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Naples, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 peacefully at home. Bart was born in Battle Creek and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, proudly serving with the United States Navy. He was a retired business owner of service stations and the Grand Rapids Auto Auction. Alan Barton "Bart" Knapp, age 85, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Naples, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 peacefully at home. Bart was born in Battle Creek and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, proudly serving with the United States Navy. He was a retired business owner of service stations and the Grand Rapids Auto Auction. Bart had a passion for boating, taking family and friends on Lake Michigan and Gull Lake. He navigated his boat with lifelong friend, Bill Windatt, from Lake Michigan through both the Mississippi and the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico where he retired in Naples. He was an avid fisherman always welcoming family and friends on his boat in the Gulf of Mexico. Bart's time back in Michigan was enthusiastically spent watching the birds, turkeys, deer, other wildlife and spending time with family. Bart had a passion for boating, taking family and friends on Lake Michigan and Gull Lake . He navigated his boat with lifelong friend, Bill Windatt, from Lake Michigan through both the Mississippi and the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico where he retired in Naples . He was an avid fisherman always welcoming family and friends on his boat in the Gulf of Mexico Bart's time back in Michigan was enthusiastically spent watching the birds, turkeys, deer, other wildlife and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alana Kay "Kate" Stone; grandson, Ryan Stone; and sister, Nancy Ballard. Bart is survived by his children, Brent Knapp, Brian & Jean Knapp, Kim Charron, and Kristi & Gary Denton; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a niece and three nephews; and many special lifelong friends.
