Alan Francis Freed, born June 1, 1956, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2026, leaving behind a space that cannot be filled and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Al was the kind of person you didn’t forget. He was known for his long stories, his quick humor, and his love of a good laugh. A natural storyteller, he was always ready with a tale or a bit of playful mischief. His iconic handlebar mustache was as memorable as his personality—bold, unmistakable, and full of character.

He had a natural ability to make people feel seen, welcome, and never alone—whether you had known him for years or had just met him. He was the kind of man who always had your back, always picked up the phone, and would drop whatever he was doing to help someone in need.

Al was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a very proud grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and had a genuine joy in being part of a child’s world, whether that was teaching, creating, or simply watching them grow. He carried a deep determination to give his children a better life than his own, something that shaped the way he showed up for them every day. He made sure his family knew they were loved, not just in words, but in everything he did.

Beyond his love for people, Al had a deep passion for anything with wheels and an engine—motorcycles, hot rods, trikes, go-karts, and t-buckets—and he found joy in car shows and time spent with friends, often gathered in familiar parking lots sharing stories, laughter, and ideas.

If something was broken, Al could fix it. If it didn’t exist, he would design a way to build it from scratch. His mind was always working, always engineering, and always creating. His imagination was endless.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christine Freed (Burd), and their three children, Amy Ohrstrom (Ryan Lehman), Ryan Freed (Erin), and Ashley Eshuis (Isaac), as well as his grandchildren by birth and by love, Lucas; Charlotte; Adrienne; Adelyn; Isla; Jennifer; and Katelyn.

Al touched more lives than can be counted. He leaves behind countless memories, stories, and the lasting impact of a man who showed up for people, time and time again.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time to honor and remember him in a way that reflects who he was.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever a part of the lives he helped shape.
