Mrs. Ada Grace Cameron, age 91, of Greenville, passed away late Thursday evening, April 9, 2009 at Spectrum Health-Blodgett Hospital, East Grand Rapids, after a brief illness.
The daughter of Harold & Myrtle C. (Adlington) Jacobson, Ada was born on July 12, 1917 in Wakefield, MI. Following high school, she earned her teaching degree from Superior State College in Wisconsin where she met the love of her life, Duncan Cameron. Ada and Duncan were married on December 7, 1940 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
Duncans career as a newspaperman brought them to Greenville in 1963. A devoted wife and mother of eight, Adas lifelong joy was time spent with her family.
Ada re-entered the teaching profession in 1967 and taught first grade at Baldwin Heights School for 18 years. A lasting legacy is that she taught over 400 children how to read.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan in 1971; her eldest son, William, in 2007, and her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Kay Jacobson of Anoka, MI.
Surviving are her children, John & Pamela Cameron of Kalamazoo; Robert & Caryl Cameron of Keuka Park, NY; Mary & Mark Mitchell of Stanton, Margaret & Mark Wilson of Charleston, WV; James & Deborah Cameron of Greenville; Richard & Debra Cameron of Caledonia, and Patrick & Mary Kay Cameron of Ballwin, MO; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Cameron of Spring Valley, CA; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her children hope Ada will be remembered for her cheerfulness, her optimism, and her solid faith in Gods help to meet lifes challenges. The warmth of her heart, her kind smile and clever sense of humor lighted the path for those who knew her. Adas passing on a beautiful spring day befits a lady who spent every day in appreciation of the blessings of God.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Cameron will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. On Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Phil Salmonowicz presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a vigil and remembering service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
